CHILDREN'S

the children can relate to more easily, through the use of song, discussion
and artwork.
MASS
WITH ANOINTING OF THE SICK
Each year, on Wednesday
of Holy Week, a Mass is held to which the sick of the parish are invited.
Any parishioner wishing to attend and requiring transport should contact
the Parish Office or the Simon of Cyrene society.
MASSES
FOR THE BEREAVED
Aware of the great
pain caused by bereavement, the Parish holds a Mass in the format of
a Service of Light in November. Individual invitations are issued to
those who have been bereaved in the previous year and a general invitation
is extended to any parishioner who would like to attend.
BROADCASTS
FOR THE HOUSEBOUND
All ceremonies in
the Church are broadcast on the CB band radio receivers, pretuned to
the appropriate band, which may be obtained from the Parish Bookshop.

Funerals
Funeral
Mass - The Liturgy
The
central theme of a priest's pastoral ministry at the time of death is
to console the bereaved and to encourage the parish community to do
so also. A funeral liturgy that is prayerful and well prepared can achieve
this. Parishioners who may normally be reluctant to be practically involved
in the liturgy often welcome the opportunity to do so at the funeral
of a loved one. Indeed it is becoming the norm that families are consulted
in the selection of Readings and read at the funeral Mass. A carefully
prepared and prayerfully celebrated funeral liturgy can make a deep
impression on all gathered in the church and especially on those whose
practice of the faith is weak. In Ireland funerals are still important
social occasions. Neighbours and friends place a lot of importance on
being present and their presence seems to mean a lot to the bereaved
family. The purpose of the liturgy is to pray that the Lord may have
mercy on the deceased and to give consolation to the bereaved.
The
Homily
The
homily should not be in the form of a Eulogy. The appropriate place for the delivery
of the eulogy is at the graveside or crematorium after the prayers have
been completed.
Music
at Funerals
Music can enhance the celebration of any liturgy but it must be sacred
music helping mourners to focus on God and the hope of the Resurrection.
The priest will advise on musicians/organists.
In summary, our funeral
liturgies should:
1. Console the bereaved
2. Encourage the living to
pray for the dead
3. Thank God for his presence in the life of the deceased
4. Throw Christ's light on the darkness of death.
Month's
Mind
There is a tradition in the Church of celebrating Mass for the happy
repose of the soul of deceased relatives about one month after the death.
It can be another occasion for the family to be comforted in their mourning.
If a family wish to have a Month's Mind Mass celebrated they should
contact the Parish Office.
Anniversary
Mass
It would be very sad if our deceased were to be forgotten. Many families
often remember their deceased relatives on the date of the anniversary
by having a Mass celebrated. If you wish to do this you should make
arrangements with the Parish Secretary
