Choose Life

Click the images at the bottom of the page to view the “Choose Life” newsletters. They are also available at the back of the church.

The newsletters are short, two pages, and deal with different aspects of pregnancy.  They seek to be educative in nature, looking at pregnancy from a medical, social, and church teaching perspective.

8th amendment

The State acknowledges the right to life of the unborn and, with due regard to the equal right to life of the mother, guarantees in its laws to respect, and, as far as practicable, by its laws to defend and vindicate that right.

An independent report in 2016, “The 8th Amendment: Ireland’s Life-Saving Provision” by actuary Brendan Lynch, estimates that at least 100,000 people are alive in Ireland today thanks to this constitutional provision. It gives people time to think the decision through and choose life for their daughter or son.  See Newsletter 11 below.

The 8th amendment to the Constitution is seen as positive and should be retained.  To keep the 8th amendment in the Constitution, vote NO in the upcoming referendum.

Quoting Emma Sisk in Issue # 11:

“Irish women deserve better than abortion. We deserve better supports and practical resources in pregnancy and motherhood. Abortion is a reflection that we have not met the needs of women in pregnancy. I was born seven years after the Eighth Amendment was introduced. I don’t feel the law introduced in 1983 violates my rights as a woman.
I’m proud and thankful I was born in a country where every person is welcomed in life and protected in law – especially the youngest members of our society, unborn babies.”

What can I do?

Prayer of Pope Francis (Laudato Si‘)
All powerful God, you are present in the whole universe
and in the smallest of your creatures.
You embrace with your tenderness all that exists.
Pour out upon us the power of your love,
That we may protect life and beauty.
Fill us with peace, that we may live
as brothers and sisters, harming no one.
