Active Retirement

This group started in 1989, with the aim of encouraging senior citizens to enjoy an active retirement. The Group holds a meeting every second Monday in the Parish Centre. Many outings and activities are organised, including the theatre, visits to places of interest and holidays. There are up to 70 members, who elect a Committee every year. The group is self-supporting. Members pay an annual membership fee and also pay for their own outings and activities.

Altar Servers

Our altar servers serve at all the ceremonies, which take place in our Church. They are recruited every year in October. It is open to both boys and girls who have made their First Holy Communion. Training is given before anyone starts to serve.

Bethany Bereavement Support Group

This group was established in the Parish in 1997 and is a voluntary parish-based Ministry, which aims to help the bereaved and grieving by offering support and a listening ear. They offer one-to-one appointments by arrangement. A group meeting is held on the last Wednesday of each month at 8.00 p.m. in the Parish Centre.

Bookshop

The bookshop is positioned in the Parish Office and is open during Parish Office opening hours. The Bookshop offers a selection of seasonal books for adults, Children’s books and bibles, Mass Cards, Greeting Cards, Baptismal Candles, Prayer Books, Rosary Beads, etc.

Choirs

Kilmacud Parish has two choirs. The Senior Choir sing at the 11.30 a.m. on Sunday and they meet on Sunday morning at 10.30 a.m. for practice. We also have a Youth Choir that sings at the 6.00 p.m. Saturday Vigil mass. They practice at 5.00 p.m. on Saturday.

Church Cleaners

This group is made up of volunteers who assist in the general care of the Church on a weekly basis. They meet on a Wednesday morning at 9.00 a.m. for one hour approximately. Offers of new help are always welcome.

Church Grounds Maintenance

This group meet at 10.00 a.m. on a Tuesday morning and they keep the grounds by mowing the grass, weeding the flowerbeds, cutting the hedges and keeping the area clean.

Citizens Information Centre

This is a Free and Confidential Service offering information on Social Welfare Entitlements, Consumer Issues, Health, Housing Family Matters, Disability Services, Employment Rights, Local Information and we also have a Tax Advice Clinic (by appointment). It is located in the Parish Centre and is open on Monday and Thursday afternoons from 2.00 p.m. – 4.30 p.m. and on Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday mornings from 10.00 a.m. to 1.00 p.m.

Coffee Dock

The Coffee Dock is situated in the Parish Centre and is open every morning after Mass. It is manned by volunteers and new help is always very welcome.

Eucharistic Ministers

A team of Lay Ministers of the Eucharist assist with the distribution of Holy Communion during Mass. They also bring Holy Communion to the Housebound of the Parish. New Ministers attend a training course before they are commissioned and are commissioned for four years.

Ministry of the Word

We read at the weekend masses and as required at Christmas and Easter.

There is always a requirement for readers. We currently have a very committed group, many of whom have been reading for several years. New readers are always welcome. If you’re in a position to commit to even one Sunday a month your help would be greatly appreciated.

Currently we read twice or three times in a two monthly period.

Padre Pio Prayer Group

The purpose of the group is to encourage prayer through association with Saint Pio. The group meets on the fourth Wednesday of the month for the 10.00 a.m. Mass. A first class relic of the Saint is available to be brought, on request, to the sick.

Parish Baptism Team

The Parish Baptism team is a group of parishioners who help families prepare for the sacrament of Baptism.

Initial application for Baptism is made through the Parish Office who then pass on the family details to the Baptism team.

The Baptism team will:
Visit the family home in the week before the Baptism and talk you through all aspects of the ceremony.
Be present at the ceremony to assist the family and the priest.
Answer any questions you might have and give any assistance necessary.

To book a Baptism please contact the Parish office. Baptisms are held on the first Saturday and third Sunday of each month.

If you would like to be part of this team please contact Siobhan Harmon at kilmacudparishoffice@gmail.com. Volunteers work as part of a two-person team and usually involves, at most, three family visits in the week before the Baptism and occasional attendance at the Baptism ceremony. Volunteers are rostered for circa six Baptisms per year.

Pioneers

The object of the Association is the promotion of sobriety. Those who join undertake to abstain from alcoholic drink, recite the Heroic Offering morning and night and wear the Pioneer Pin. The Kilmacud Branch was founded in 1917 and is now attached to the Parish Church.

Society of St. Vincent de Paul

The poor have always found a friend with the St. Vincent de Paul Society. The Conference in this parish meets twice a month. We do not discriminate against anybody regardless of age, sex, race etc. We help everyone. “No act of charity is foreign to the Society”. The essential work of the society is person-to-person contact. Home visitation is the cornerstone of our work. We offer tangible assistance to those in need. This aid may take the form of debt management and budgeting, food vouchers, money, help with educational costs, fuel and other home utilities. All this work is done while maintaining the confidentiality and dignity of those we help.

Society of Simon of Cyrene

A Parish-based visitation Ministry founded in 2000, in Kilmacud Parish. The Society aims to serve parishioners who are sick, elderly, living alone, housebound or in nursing homes through regular visits where we listen, we share, we hear and we care.

Visitors

Volunteers from the Society will visit parishioners (our Simon Friends) at their request in their home, in hospitals and in nursing homes, over the short, medium and long term.

Visitor Information Forms outlining visiting and other services can be obtained in local chemist shops and in local doctors’ waiting rooms as well as at the bookshop.

To avail of any of the services, fill in the short form in the brochure and hand it to one of the Priests or leave it in to the Parish Office or Sacristy.
